How to Use a Menstrual Cup

I finally got one of my own.

Menstrual cups are bell shaped cups usually made of silicon or rubber. They are used to hold blood during menstruation. It is used by inserting it into the vagina just like a tampon and then emptying it when it is full.

Use
Sterilize your cup with hot water before use for about 3 minutes. Wash your hands thoroughly to avoid introducing bacteria into your vagina. Find a comfortable position to do this. You can either squat or place one leg up.

Fold and hold the cup in such a way that it narrows at the top then using your fingers push the cup in place. Once in place the cup will open. If you feel pain or discomfort, please remove it and try again. Once it is full, remove it carefully so as not to spill then empty it. Wash the cup before inserting again and you’ll be good to go.

It saves on money. Obviously! Now you can use that money to do something else for yourself or you can just save it instead.

It is good for the environment. Pads and tampons create a lot of waste due to their use, and dispose nature. Now you can do your bit when it comes to saving mother earth.

There is a longer duration of use. Menstrual cups can be used for up to 12 hours.

Cons

They are difficult to use for the first time. This can be remedied by following instructions on use, and obviously practice makes perfect.

It requires cleaning after every use.

It can get messy when emptying it. This is where following instructions and practice comes in.
